Living by Faith as an Overcomer

We are in the hour of Habakkuk. Habakkuk saw the seriousness of the world falling apart, then laid a hold of God by faith. He complained to God, asking why a more wicked nation would destroy God’s own wayward nation. He then acknowledged that Judah deserved punishment for her sins. The wicked Chaldeans would be brought down for their own sins at a later time.

God replied to Habakkuk, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14 NKJV. The prophet found his joy in God, not in the circumstances around him. A great hymn of faith is given by Habakkuk in chapter 3, verses 17-19. Raise your sight up from the temporal to the Author and Finisher of your faith.

  1. Habakkuk voices his complaint to God in Chapter 1, verses 1-4. God responds in verses 5-11 and it puzzles the prophet.
  2. God speaks and Habakkuk listens in chapter 2 verse 2. God’s revelation changes his perspective.
  3. Shaking is here, yet we, as believers, shall live by faith.
  4. Habakkuk’s attitude changes.

Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.

19 [d]The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.

To the Chief Musician. With my stringed instruments.

Habakkuk 3:17-19 NKJV
